ZONES

Koop van Zuid
Kop van Zuid. This old empty zone of wharves was gradually transformed into a new city with a mixture of residence, office and recreation areas. The construction of this zone, will continue until the year 2010. To the right of the bridge, it is Wilhelminakade which is a completely renovated passenger terminal and was the departure point of the Cruise Line Holland-America to America. One is also the Centre of Marine Security, and there is the Hotel New York and the World Port Centre. One of the main parts of the zone is formed by the Entrepot Area, with its restaurants throughout its luxurious marina.

Kralingen
Kralingen. This district was, in the past, an independent area of Rotterdam, but it ended up getting up itself to the city in 1895. It was inhabited mainly by rich citizens and dominated by mansions and residences constructed in different architectural styles along the avenues and canals. In this district are the Arboretum Trompenburg and the greatest lake of Rotterdam.

Weena
Weena. In this avenue named after an old medieval noble house in Rotterdam, there has been intense activity since the 1980’s, when a green light was given to the architects to express his ideas on verticality. The avenue is occupied by great office buildings, and its economic value is considerable. It is here where the great companies such as the Nationaal Nederlanden wanted to locate the headquarters of their companies, which has made it into an important businesses centre.

Noordereiland
Noordereiland. This small and calm district surrounded by the Maas River exists since the year 1879, as the result of the excavations of the Koningshaven wharf. The island is connected to the shore of the Maas River by bridges that were constructed in 1878. Two of them, located in the South side of the island are movable. Luxury flats and office buildings were constructed using Eclectic and Neo-Renaissance style in the North part of the island. Most of the buildings that were created in the past have been replaced or renewed. It’s possible to admire the different periods from urban renovation in the square Burgemeester Hoffmanplein located in the South part of the island.
