WHARVES

Leuvehaven
Leuvehaven. Leuvehaven was a sea port for more that three centuries.Untill the 70’s this wharf was a swarm of commercial activities and the headquarters of several sailing companies. Today the wharf is full of historic boats, cranes, and other marine machinery. Here is also the Maritiem Museum, the Walk of Fame, El Salvador (a historic clipper where today the old boats are restaured), and the old ship De Buffel.

Wijnhaven
Wijnhaven. In this port the wine barrels were kept in dozens of warehouses that were aligned along this wharf. Most of these warehouses were destroyed during the bombings of World War II. The wharf occupies the zone located between the Regentessebrug ,Oudehaven, and the extension of the Willemsbrug. Due to these artificial bridges it is not suitable for the mooring of great boats. Today this zone is occupied by modern offices and apartments towers.

Veerhaven
Veerhaven. This wharf is located in the Scheepvaartkwartier district. This district was the first structured urban extension outside the triangle of the city after the year 1850. It was designed by architect Rose. In this area we can find a variety of old houses, offices and warehouses with several architectural styles. One of the most elegant buildings is on the corner of Rivierstraat with Westerkade. The building with Neo-Classic facade with iron columns has a palatial aspect. The Veerhaven wharf is the habitual stop for big sailing boats. Among them, the most well-known is De Oosterchelde.

Haringvliet
Haringvliet. This wharf was created during an extension made between the years 1575 and 1592. Its name derives from the fleet that dedicated itself to the fishing of the herring and that had its base here. The Outdoor Inland Navigation Fundation has constructed here wharves for historical ships and recently has been recovered like an authentic port. In this zone there are numerous buildings that survived the bombers and that have been recovered to similarity of their original ones.
