Groothandeslgebouw
Groothandeslgebouw. This superstructure of 128000 square meters was the first building constructed after World War II. It was designed by architect H.A. Maaskant and finalized in 1951 being at his time the greatest collective building of Europe. In their interior there are commercial zones, and has a matrix of inner streets where the trucks can circulate. With numerous entrances and stairs, and an old cinema in its top floor, the complex has an expressive and unique architecture.
   
World Port Centre
World Port Centre. With a height of 124 meters, 139 meters with the antenna, is one of the highest buildings of Holland. The architect of this building is the famous Sir Norman Foster, known by his designs of the Commerzbank in Frankfurt, and the HongKong and Shanghai banks in HongKong among others. Its construction began in the spring of 1998 and it was finished in 2000. In this tower 42000 square meters of offices are lodged. The rest of the building is office space which is only rented to companies that have connection with the port of Rotterdam.
   
World Trade Centre
World Trade Centre. This green crystal tower has dominated the centre of Rotterdam since 1986.It is formed by the combination of two buildings; one on top of another. The bottom building was designed by J.F.Staal (building of stock-market) and the other by the company Groosman en Partners from Rotterdam. Its form is elliptical and has 20 floors and a height of 90 meters. It has a ground surface of 21500 square meters and its construction cost 27 million euros. In its interior among others is the Chamber of Commerce.
   
Biblioteca Municipal
Biblioteca Municipal. Inspired partly by the Museum Pompidou in Paris, it was designed and constructed by the architectonic agency Van den Broek and Bakena with Hans Boot as the architect of the project in 1983. It is the biggest public library in Holland. It owns a collection of more that 250000 books, cd’s, videos and DVD’s available to rent. The building can’t be missed with its immense air conditioned pipes painted of bright colors. The library is open from 10.00 to 21.00 and on Saturdays from 10.00 to 17.00.
