Maassluis. The typical facades of their buildings from the XVII century still evoke the glorious past of Maassluis. Today the city lives from the commerce of exporting products from the west part of the country (vegetal, fruit and flowers). In the zone there are numerous canals and thousands of greenhouses, gardens and fruit tree plantations. In the centre of the village is the Kerkeiland (church island), known locally as the fort. It is a defensive wall, built during the 80 years war that took place at the end of the XVI century against Spain.
